日本では3月末～4月は桜の季節として知られていますよね。
桜は英語で「cherry blossoms」ですが、近年は海外でも日本語をそのまま英語にした「sakura」も浸透しています。
でも桜を英語に直訳するだけでは、日本ならではの美しい桜やお花見という文化の魅力が伝わりません。
そこで今回は日本の「桜」や「お花見」を詳しく説明する表現に加え、実際に外国人とお花見を楽しむ際に使える表現を紹介します。
桜を英語で説明する
まずは桜についてあまり知らない外国人に対して、英語で桜を説明するフレーズを見てみましょう。
Spring in Japan is known for the blooming of cherry blossoms. Cherry blossom viewing, or hanami, is a traditional Japanese celebration of this beautiful sight.
（日本の春は、美しい桜が咲くことで知られています。美しい桜の景色を見るお花見は、日本の伝統的なイベントです。）
Cherry blossoms usually bloom from the end of March to the beginning of April. The blooming period is very short and only lasts one to two weeks.
（桜は、3月の終わりから4月の頭にかけて咲きます。咲く期間はとても短く、1~2週間です。）
Because of the short blooming period, cherry blossoms are thought to be symbolic of the concept that “nothing is permanent”.

お花見を英語で説明する
日本に住む人々にとって、お花見は伝統的でポピュラーなイベントです。お花見についてよく知らない外国人に、お花見を上手に説明できますか？例を見てみましょう。
People traditionally hold outdoor hanami parties under the cherry blossoms, enjoying food and drink with friends, family and colleagues.
