Writing skills are essential for employees when they communicate with colleagues and clients in different languages. The Berlitz writing skills test is a 60-minute assessment of an employee’s ability to craft emails, memos and reports. The language writing skills test is the result of collaboration between language experts at Berlitz and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Companies, governments and organizations across the globe use Berlitz’ writing test for business to recruit talent, develop teams and create benchmarks for their staff. Ratings are based on task fulfillment – the ability to create and understand written samples, and idea organization which assesses an examinee’s ability to organize ideas using examples, rhetorical structures and transition words.

The writing skills test includes:

  • A paper-based or online 60-minute exam
  • Results based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) – the international standard for language learning
  • Availability in languages including, but not limited to: Arabic, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Turkish – with more continually added or removed based on demand
  • Access to test results within 24 to 48 hours
