Thanks to the subsidized German for Professional Purposes program (DeuFöV), people with a migrant background can apply to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) for reimbursement of up to 100% of the costs. Participation is always free of charge for apprentices and low-income employees.

Course details

The content of the German for Professional Purposes courses is based on the concept defined by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). In our courses, active speaking plays an important role. The course content focuses on work and career. This involves job-related topics such as communication in the workplace, reading and understanding letters, emails, and other texts, and taking part in discussions.

Certificate: All German for Professional Purposes courses conclude with a telc final examination, which tests all four language skill areas: speaking, writing, reading, and listening.

Basic modules

Module B1 → B2

Starting level B1 and language objective B2

Number of lessons: 400 classroom hours

Final test: B2 (telc examination)

Module B1 → B2 + additional course (Brückenelement)

Starting level B1 and language objective B2

Includes an additional course for repetition of language skills at B1 level

Number of lessons: 500 classroom hours

Final test: B2 (telc examination)

Module B2 → C1

Starting level B2 and language objective C1

Number of lessons: 400 classroom hours

Final test: C1 (telc examination)

The courses are for all people with a migrant background who need better German skills to qualify for the labor market or for their ongoing vocational training or current job. Depending on the language objective, participation in a course requires a certain level of proficiency in German. In addition, a certificate of eligibility (Berechtigungsschein) is required to attend the course. Potential participants can obtain this certificate from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) or the Job Center.

The BAMF German for Professional Purposes courses are subsidized by the state and Berlitz is recognized as an educational provider for these courses by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). This means that up to 100% of the costs of your German course can be covered.

We regularly offer new start dates for German for Professional Purposes courses. You will find the exact dates in the course overview. We offer the German for Professional Purposes (DeuFöV) courses as group courses, either in person at your local Berlitz Center or online in our virtual classroom. For online classes you will need a computer with internet access and a headset. The German courses are available full time or part time.

German courses for apprentices

There are specially funded BAMF German courses for apprentices with migrant backgrounds who are pursuing dual vocational training in Germany. These courses focus on the targeted improvement of German language skills for apprenticeships and vocational schools, and on preparation for the final examination. We offer German courses for a variety of professions and subjects. These courses are 100% funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
