Learn English and discover Hamburg

Extraordinary museums, exciting leisure activities and the world-famous harbor: Come to Hamburg and we’ll embark on a thrilling voyage of discovery together. Our motto for the trip? Learning by doing. We combine English learning with sightseeing, shopping, team games and a whole bunch of leisure-time fun. The result? An unforgettable vacation in one of the coolest cities in Germany!

Learning English in our holiday camp Hamburg

At our Hamburg language camp, everything revolves around the foreign language. We’ll be speaking as much English as possible - both during lessons and the leisure program. Kids can expect the following:

  • "Learning by speaking" in small groups with a qualified counselor,
  • 4 x 45-minute classes five camp days a week.

The core focus of our Berlitz method is to use the foreign language as much as possible. We do this primarily through play: for example, by having the kids create a camp diary, play language games, or work on projects.

At our Hamburg language camp, we aim to give kids the confidence and self-assurance they need to speak English in a group setting. Therefore, we make sure that the learning groups are assigned according to age and ability level. Friendships often develop this way, and many kids can’t wait to see their new friends again at another camp the following year.

Excitement, fun, and action program at Hamburg language camp

Language lessons are done for the day, but the learning is far from over: our afternoons at the Hamburg holiday camp are colorful and exciting. And along the way, kids will continue to practice the foreign language in a fun way – during sports, when we do crafts together or let off steam doing creative activities. Our camp director can also speak German, for example when it comes to giving safety or other important instructions.

Fun and action in the afternoon

At the Hamburg holiday camp, kids can make the most of everything on hand and try out a whole bunch of exciting activities. Whether it’s a gymnastics class or a volleyball game, making jewelry or designing T-shirts: this is how we make vacations super fun!

What exactly do we do? It depends on the weather and the time of year. But there’s always plenty of fun and action. For example, the program could include:

  • Sightseeing or shopping in Hamburg, for example visit the Elbphilharmonie or eat a fish sandwich in the harbor.
  • Doing crafts, exciting team challenges and quizzes.
  • Playing table tennis or organizing a tournament.
  • Shooting videos and finding out about social media together, or
  • Learning songs in the foreign language.

Fun and action even after sunset

In the evening, kids can also enjoy great new experiences and play with friends new and old. If it’s nice out, we’ll have a barbecue at the youth hostels BBQ area. Otherwise, we’ll chill inside and maybe watch a movie.

The activities mentioned here are examples and may vary depending on dates, availability and group.

Perfectly equipped: Hamburg Youth Hostel

Boredom? No thanks! Guests at Hamburg’s Horner Rennbahn Youth Hostel can play foosball, billiards and table tennis and even have a go on the arcade machines for a small extra fee. Anyone who’d like a quieter time can settle down with a book or a game next to the fireplace. When the weather’s nice, the kids can relax out on the terrace or on the playing field. So practical: The youth hostel has great public transport connections – it only takes 25 minutes to get to downtown Hamburg on the bus or on the subway.

Fun and action in the city by the river Elbe

In fact, the city by the river Elbe boasts numerous opportunities to go shopping and sightseeing and enjoy thrilling excursions to such destinations as the Elbphilharmonie concert hall and the Hafencity district. Important: Kids should bring their own reusable water bottle so that they can fill it up in between meals.

Please contact our team prior to booking if your child requires a special diet for religious or other reasons.

Check-in and placement: On the first day, you will arrive at the camp with your kids at the time mentioned in the travel information (send to all participants before camp starts). After check-in, all Berlitz team members and participants will be able to get acquainted and ask questions during a Q&A session. This will be followed by a short placement, both written and oral, for the kids.

Important departure info: After check-out on the last morning at camp, all counselors and participants will say goodbye to each other. Parents will be informed what time they can pick up their kids well in advance and prior to the start of camp.
