Knight’s castle and bathing lake: the Burghausen language camp

A lake with a view of an imposing castle, a picturesque city center and many sports facilities on site: learning French is fun in this great environment and is guaranteed never to be boring. Together we will discover the many facets of the French language and explore the fairytale region.

Improving language skills at Burghausen language camp with Berlitz

Our holiday camp in Burghausen combines language lessons in the mornings with a varied leisure program in the afternoons. During lessons, the focus is on creativity: for example, kids will write content for our camp magazine, draw and describe their own pictures, or act out fairy tales in French. That way, we teach kids to enjoy the foreign language through play.

Learning French during the school break? That’s not a problem with our Berlitz camps! Unlike school lessons, the aim here is not to teach as much material and grammar as possible. We use the Berlitz method of "learning by speaking", i.e. as much active speaking as possible. We offer kids:

  • Lessons five mornings a week (4 x 45 minutes each)
  • Kids are encouraged to actively use French in small groups.

On the day of arrival, we’ll assign kids to learning groups according to their age and previous knowledge.

Nature, adventure, and language: a vacation program for active kids

Enjoying unforgettable experiences, trying exciting activities, and learning a foreign language along the way: at our Burghausen holiday camp, kids get to use newly learned words and phrases in a fun way right from the start.

Discovery tours, hut-building in the forest, and fun quiz evenings: for the most part, kids will speak to each other in the foreign language. German is only used for important safety instructions or in case of emergency.

Sports, fun and games in the afternoon

Our holiday camp program is varied and fun. What do kids do? It depends on the season and the weather. Here are a few examples of what active kids can experience at camp:

  • Swimming and bathing at the bathing area in the Wöhrsee, including diving tower, floating island, water playground, etc.,
  • Guided tour of Burghausen Castle, the longest castle in the world at 1051 meters.
  • Building huts, dams or cairns in the forest,
  • Going on exciting excursions in the surrounding area, or
  • Getting creative, for example, drawing comics or manga strips, making friendship bracelets, and much more.

Cozy evenings with new friends

After an exciting day in the great outdoors or (if necessary) indoors, we make ourselves comfortable in the evening at Burghausen language camp: depending on the weather and season, round the campfire or inside. But, of course, there’s still lots of exciting activities to enjoy, such as:

  • Baking campfire bread and toasting marshmallows,
  • A fun "Battle of the Bands" music competition,
  • Reading stories in the foreign language, or
  • Simply playing together.

Good to know: The program is created and adapted individually and on site for each date and can therefore vary.

Sport and fun at Burghausen Youth Hostel

In the newly renovated Burghausen Youth Hostel, the kids can look forward to bright, modern multi-bed rooms in which boys and girls can make themselves comfortable separately. Badminton, basketball, football or would you prefer beach volleyball? On the spacious outdoor area everything is ready for sports or team games. Right next door, you can discover a nature trail and a sensory trail.

Or how about swimming in the nearby Wöhrsee? Here you can swim with a view of the imposing Burghausen Castle. If you want to relax after so much fun and excitement, you can relax in the youth hostel’s sun room.

Magically beautiful: Burghausen

Our accommodation is located at the foot of the longest castle in the world: Burghausen Castle, which measures an impressive 1,051 meters. The imposing fortress with several towers, courtyards, gates and moats stretches across a ridge between the Salzach River and Lake Wöhrsee. The city of Burghausen also has a lot to offer – for example, a medieval old town with enchanting colorful houses and numerous cultural offerings.

Additional information

„On parle français“ – that’s the motto we follow at the Burghausen Berlitz Camp. Our experienced counselors are at the kids’ side all day long. Both during lessons that take place in small groups in the mornings and during the fun and action in the afternoons and evenings. Our focus: to ensure all kids speak French all day long.

The best proof of the success of our Berlitz concept: many counselors were camp participants themselves in the past and support us year after year!

Providing the best all-round support at our Berlitz language camps is important to us. That also includes a balanced diet. Kids will receive three meals a day and these include drinks like juice, tea, or water. Please pack a reusable water bottle, so that your child can fill it up in between meals.

We try our best to offer alternatives for kids with special requests, such as vegetarians or those with allergies. Please contact our team before booking so that we can discuss this on a one-on-one basis.

How we start: Camp starts on the first day at the time mentioned in the travel information (sent to all participants before camp start). Together with their parents, kids will be able to get to know our team and other participants and take part in a parents' welcome session. All kids will receive our welcome package, which consists of a gym bag, lunch box, T-shirt, and much more. We use a written and oral placement to place kids in the right learning group. With younger kids, we often just talk briefly about their hobbies and everyday life.

Important departure information: Parents can pick up their kids on the day of departure. You will find out exactly when in the camp travel documents. Unfortunately, it is not possible to pick kids up at a later time, as our team will also be leaving. We will send all camp documents, including a certificate of participation, to the participants afterwards.

Then take a look at our kids camp FAQ page where we have gathered further information.

We will also send you further details regarding the pack list, arrival and departure etc. by e-mail after your booking.
