Holiday camp with Berlitz on the dream island of Sylt
Learning a language between sea, dunes, and heath — that's possible at our Berlitz language camp on the North Sea island of Sylt. What makes it special: this camp can not only be booked as a vacation offer for kids, but also as a family camp for the whole family. Let's go to Sylt!

Sylt language camp – the perfect place to learn a language
Speaking instead of cramming: kids learn a foreign language best by using the language. That is our mission at the holiday camp on Sylt. In addition to a great leisure program in the afternoons, our participants can look forward to lessons in the mornings (5 days a week, 4 x 45 minutes each) and larning in small groups according to the Berlitz method ("learning by speaking").
During lessons, our qualified counselors will focus on one thing above all: having fun with the foreign language through, for example, varied learning methods. In addition to language games, kids might conduct interviews, write or edit song lyrics, or create articles for their own camp magazine.
The Berlitz team will assign kids to learning groups according to their age and language level on the day of arrival. This ensures that all kids benefit from the best possible learning environment.

Beach and island action for all: our leisure program
After the classes in the morning, we continue with our colorful leisure program in the afternoon—of course, also in the foreign language. Depending on the weather, mood, and spirits, our counselors prepare great activities.
On the beach, fun and action are the order of the day.
Whether it's swimming, playing beach volleyball, a beach Olympics, or a sandcastle competition—there's always something going on here.
- Off to the water. Whether on one of the numerous beaches or in the swimming pool, water rats will definitely get their money's worth at Sprachcamp Sylt.
- Not just gray mud! On a mudflat hike we discover the different types of mudflats and how many creatures populate the unique natural landscape.
- Not only in, but also high above the ground there is much to discover: namely the lighthouses. So why not hike to the nearest lighthouse?
- For example, during creative workshops, we will make necklaces and bracelets using beach materials.
- And with excursions to the island's capital Westerland, to the Wadden Sea Conservation Station, or during an island expedition, we get to know the island of Sylt better.
- And if it rains? Then it's off to the aquarium, for example, where we say hello to local aquatic creatures such as cod or sea scorpion. But you can also observe tropical species like rays or zebra sharks.
- If after so much action there is still some energy left over, the kids can let off steam on the playground or the mini-soccer field at the accommodation.
Even in the evening, things will be exciting on Sylt: for example, our camp participants can look forward to a barbecue evening, a disco or movie night, a casino night, or a beach party.
Important note: The offered activities are depending on the weather, date, and availability – therefore the program may vary.
On some dates, we also offer a family camp for accompanying parents or grandparents. The adults also have language classes in the morning, separately from the kids, following the Berlitz method. In the afternoons and evenings, they participate in the leisure program together with the kids. Families stay in their own family rooms.
The exciting day ends for participants of our Day Camps with afternoon activities at 5 p.m. But don’t worry: The next day directly starts at 9 a.m. with language training and varied activities.

Welcome to Sylt: this is where we’ll be staying
Jugendgästehaus Pidder-Lüng-Haus, Friesenplatz 3, 25997 Hörnum / Sylt
Waves, dunes, and wind in Hörnum: our accommodation
Just outside Hörnum in the sunny south of the island, our cozy accommodation is located in a large brick house. Girls and boys are accommodated separately in shared rooms, and participants of our family camp stay in family rooms. The gorgeous beach is just a few steps away, and a sports field and ping-pong tables invite participants to play.
Highlights in Hörnum
The village of Hörnum is located at the southernmost tip of Sylt and is considered to be the water sports center of the North Sea island with its extensive beaches and great water conditions. Hörnum's well-known landmark, the picturesque red-and-white-striped lighthouse, is definitely well worth a visit. From our accommodation, it is only a few minutes' walk to a lookout point and to the beautiful sandy beach. The beach is supervised by the German Lifeguard Association (DLRG) and is ideal for swimming, relaxing, playing beach volleyball, and water sports.

Additional information
Having qualified counselors is the be-all and end-all at our Sylt language camp. Our counselors come from different countries, including England, Mexico, France, the US, and Austria. They have plenty of experience in looking after kids.
In addition to the lessons in the mornings, they are responsible for organizing the recreational activities in the afternoons and evenings. What makes us stand out: our counselors speak to kids in the foreign language all day long and motivate them to use the foreign language as much as possible. That's what makes learning fun!
Our ultimate goal: everyone should feel completely at home at our Berlitz language camp. In addition to playing, having fun, and making new friends, that also includes good meals, three times a day. All three meals a day are prepared at the accommodation. Drinks like tea and water are provided with meals. Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated between meals.
We also aim to offer alternatives for vegetarians, those with allergies, or those who require special diets. Please be sure to contact us before booking!
Arrival and departure to the island is independent. You will get the exact arrival times with the travel information send to you before the start of the camp.
Please let us know if you would like our team to pick up your child from the ferry/car train. This service is free of charge for you. Please note that our team can only pick up your child on the island and cannot provide any help or support in getting to the island.
Here's how it goes: We start on the first day at the time specified in the travel documents. All participants will receive an email with the exact details before the camp starts. All children will receive a welcome pack to start the camp.
The most important thing about departure: On the day of departure, parents can pick up their children at the time specified in the travel documents. As our entire team is also leaving, a later pick-up is unfortunately not possible. Therefore, please be on time.
Then take a look at our kids camp FAQ page where we have gathered further information.
We will also send you further details regarding the pack list, arrival and departure etc. by e-mail after your booking.
