5 foods to try from around the world

Kyle Carney -

It may be difficult to travel right now, but that does not mean you can’t still enjoy cultures from around the world. Food is one of the greatest cultural elements. It brings the world together, yet also distinguishes cultures and values.

To help you enjoy cultures from around the world, we have put together a list of foods that you can try at home.

The Netherlands

The Dutch culture is known for a lot of things, including some great food. One of the most well-known – and sweetest – treats is stroopwafel. This sweet treat is made with two thin waffles stuck together with a layer of sweet syrup. Stroopwafel is great as a breakfast treat or an afternoon snack. It is also best enjoyed hot and gooey. Thailand

Thai food is extremely popular all over the world and for good reason. With the combination of delicious seasonings, meats and noodles, it is hard to go wrong. Guay Teow is one of those dishes that is hard not to love. Made with either chicken, pork or beef, this noodle soup is simple and delicious. Best of all, it tastes just as great as a late-night snack as it is in the middle of the day.

Argentina

The best kind of food is the kind that is versatile. In Argentina, Choripán is the perfect option for just about any setting. This traditional gaucho food is now a staple of any street vendor or market. Consisting of pork and beef chorizo topped with chimichurri and served between two pieces of crusty bread. You will be as happy eating this in your kitchen or a park.

Nigeria

With its rich and diverse culture, Nigeria is home to some delicious food options. One of the most popular: Jollof rice. This simple dish is extremely tasty. In fact, it might surprise you to find out it is simply rice with tomato, onion, pepper and some other spices. For an even tastier version, you can add some vegetables or meat, but the rice is just as good without it.

Australia

Famous for its big waves and eccentric animals, Australia also boasts some delicious food. One staple in Australia is meat pies. Now, you may think of apple or pumpkin when you think of pies, but these delicious snacks are generally filled with mincemeat and gravy and are topped with tomato sauce. You can also find them filled with mashed potatoes and peas.

While you may not be able to travel around the world right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t still appreciate cultures from around the world. With these foods, you can bring these diverse cultures to your own kitchen.
