Maximilian D. Berlitz: Meet the founder of our school
Maximilian Berlitz (1852-1921) was a German linguist, polyglot and teacher. In the second half of the 19th century, he immigrated to the United States, where he began working as a language teacher at a language school. He was the founder of the Berlitz language schools, the first of which he established in 1878 in Providence, Rhode Island (USA).

From coincidence to eureka: How an unexpected turn created a global Method
One day, due to illness, Maximillian was forced to hand over teaching to his new assistant, a young Frenchman named Nicolas, who did not know a word of English. With no other choice - Berlitz instructed him to speak only in French, aided by gestures and context.
After six weeks of absence, Berlitz returned to the classroom and was surprised - students understood and spoke French to a greater extent, compared to traditional learning. It turned out that the lack of translation forced them to truly immerse themselves in the language, so they learned much faster.
This experience gave birth to the Berlitz Method, which is based on full language immersion, active communication and natural language learning from the first minutes of the lesson.
